Dr. Bhupen Hazarika (1st Anniversary) 2009
The Assamese of the Year’ honour was presented for the first time to the music maestro Dr. Bhupen Hazarika in 2009. Popularly known as the 'Bard of Brahmaputra' for his evergreen songs Bhupen Hazarika had the power to weave his magic and enthral audience all across the world. Bharat Ratna Hazarika in his illustrious career donned many hats from being a poet, music composer, singer, actor, journalist, author and filmmaker. The self-proclaimed jajabor (wanderer) took the rich folk heritage of Assam and interpreted it beautifully for the world through his songs.

Arnab Goswami (2nd Anniversary) 2010
‘The Assamese of the Year’ award was presented to famous journalist of the country Arnab Goswami in 2010. Goswami who hails from Assam has created a niche for himself in the field of Indian journalism. He is currently the editor and majority owner of the news channel Republic TV. Before Republic TV, Goswami was the editor-in-chief and a news anchor of Times Now and ET Now, from 2006 to 2016. Previously, he had also served stints at NDTV and The Telegraph.

Jayanta Talukdar (3rd Anniversary) 2011
Archer Jayanta talukdar was honoured with ‘Assamese of the Year’ award by Pride East Entertainments’ Private Limited in the year 2011. Talukdar from Assam was part of the Indian team that won the silver medal at the 2004 Junior World Championships. He followed up with a gold medal at the FITA Meteksan World Cup in 2006. In 2006 he also won a gold medal at the South Asian Games and a bronze medal in the team competition at the 2006 Asian Games.

Jahnu Barua (4th Anniversary) 2012
The Assamese of the Year Award was conferred upon Jahnu Barua, the multiple national and international award-winning director from Assam in 2012. He has written and directed a number of Assamese and Hindi films. Some of his remarkable films include Halodhia Choraye Baodhan Khai (Catastrophe), Firingoti (Spark), Hkhagoroloi Bohu Door (It's Long Way to the Sea), Maine Gandhi Ko Nahi Mara (I did not kill Gandhi), Konikar Ramdhenu (Ride on the Rainbow), Baandhon (Waves of Silence), Ajeyo (Invincible) etc. Jahnu Barua has been conferred Padma Shri (2003) and Padma Bhushan (2015).

SHIVA THAPA (5th Anniversary) 2013
Pride East Entertainments Private Limited conferred ‘Assamese of the Year’ award to international boxer Shiva Thapa in 2013. Shiva is a four-time Asian medallist who hails from Guwahati. Shiva Thapa created history by bagging India's first gold at the VII Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup 2019 boxing tournament after getting a walkover in the finals held in Astana, Kazakhstan. A recipient of prestigious Arjuna Award for the year 2016, Shiva Thapa participated in the 2012 London Olympics and was the youngest Indian boxer to qualify for the Olympics.

JITENDRA NATH GOSWAMI (6th Anniversary) 2014
The ‘Assamese of the Year’ award was bestowed upon Prof. Jitendra Nath Goswami in 2014. Goswami who hails from Assam’s Jorhat was the Principal Scientist of the first Indian Planetary Mission to Moon, Chandrayaan-1. He served as a director of Physical Research Laboratory situated at Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He was also associated with Chandrayaan-2 and Mangalyaan. Dr. Goswami was involved in the planning and execution of Chandrayaan-1 mission to the moon and also in defining a road map for planetary exploration in the coming decades. He guided ISRO's Planetary Science and Exploration project from PRL during its formative stage (2004-07). He set up a high-resolution secondary ion mass spectrometer laboratory for planetary research that has several firsts to its credit.

ADIL HUSSAIN (7th Anniversary) 2015
Famous actor with national and international repute Adil Hussain was honoured with ‘Assamese of the Year’ in the year 2015. Hussain, who is from Goalapra in Assam is known for his critically acclaimed performances in award winning films such as Ang Lee's Oscar winning Life of Pi, Subhashish Bhutiani's Hotel Salvation/Mukti Bhavan, Iram Haq's What Will People Say, Danis Tanovic's Tigers, Mira Nair's The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Pan Nalin's Angry Indian Goddesses, Partho Sen-Gupta's Sunrise, Italo Spinelli's Gangor, Prashant Nair's Umrika, Leena Yadav's Parched and Bauddhayan Mukherji's The Violin Player. For his lead role in Hotel Salvation and Maj Rati Ketaki, he received a National Award in India in 2017. He also received the Kanon Prisen award in Norway for Best Supporting Actor for his work in What Will People Say in 2018. For Mukti Bhavan which has received over 25 International awards, he has been nominated for numerous Best actor awards and won at the DCSAFF and Rajasthan International Film Festival.

ANGARAG PAPON MAHANTA (8th Anniversary) 2016
‘Assamese of the Year’ award was conferred upon popular Bollywood singer Angarag Papon Mahanta in the year 2016. Papon was born to a set of brilliant musicians of Assam and was introduced to music and its intricacies at a very early age. His mother Archana Mahanta and father Late Khagen Mahanta are two very popular and revered singers of the state. Papon’s first few tracks in Bollywood were Har Ek Baat and Naina Laagey, the ones he had collaborated with Midival Punditz, for film Soundtrack (2011). He has also sung tracks like Jiyein Kyun for the film Dum Maaro Dum (2011) and Zindagi Aisi Waisi for I Am Kalam (2011). His rendition of Kyon in Anurag Basu-directed Barfi! (2012) won him applause and accolades alike. 2013 has seen Papon add more hits to his name like Kaun Mera in Special 26 (2013) and Maula Sun Le Re and Khud Se from the John Abraham-starrer Madras Café (2013). In Laxmi – movie by Nagesh Kukunoor, Papon has sung the song Sun Re Baavli. In the movie Bobby Jassos Papon sang a duet with Shreya Ghosal. The most recent ones are in the movies Happy Ending, Baby, Hawaizaada, Dum Laga Ke Haisa, Humari Adhuri Kahani, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Chikara, Barfi etc.

HOMEN BORGOHAIN (10th Anniversary) 2018
‘Assamese of the Year‘ award was presented to Assam’s renowned litterateur and journalist Homen Borgohain in 2018 on the 10th anniversary of Pride East Entertainments Private Limited. Borgohain, a famous literary figure of Assam has several monumental works to his credit. He was awarded the 1978 Sahitya Akademi Award in Assamese language for his novel Pita Putra. His other popular novels include Saudor Puteke Nau Meli Jay, Halodhiya Soraye Baudhan Khai, Astarag, Timir Tirtha, Kushilab, Edinar Diary, Bisannata,Nisongota, Subala, Matshyagandhaa. Atmanusandhan, Dhumuha Aru Ramdhenu, Mor Hridoy Ekhon Judhyokhetro, Gadyar Sadhana, Manuh Howar Gaurav, Progyar Sadhan, Ucchakangsha are Borgohain’s autobiographical and non-fiction works. He was also the president of Asom Sahitya Sabha, the apex literary body of Assam. Borgohain first edited an Assamese weekly newspaper Nilachal and later he edited the weekly Nagarik. Afterwards, he served as a senior staff member of Bengali daily newspaper Ajkal. Currently he is the Chief Editor of the most popular Assamese daily’ Niyomiya Barta.’

RIMA DAS, HIMA DAS, DR TAPAN KUMAR SAIKIA (11th Anniversary) 2019
Assamese of the Year award in 2019 was conferred jointly to internationally-acclaimed film maker Rima Das, champion sprinter Hima Das and eminent oncologist and Clinical Director of Assam Cancer Care Foundation, Dr. Tapan Kumar Saikia.

Rima Das (11th Anniversary) 2019
Rima Das is a famous film director best known for her film, Village Rockstars (2017) which won several National and international awards. The film, written, directed, edited and produced by Das, was India's official entry for the Oscars, 2018 in the Best Foreign Language Film Category. The film, chosen out of 28 other entries in India, is also the first Assamese film to be submitted for Oscar consideration. She won India's National Award for Best Film and Best Editor, announced on 13 April 2018 by a Government of India appointed jury headed by filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor. Her next film Bulbul Can Sing (2018) was screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. Bulbul Can Sing bagged the National Award 2019 for the Best Assamese Film. The critically acclaimed feature, also won the Best Indie Film at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) in Victoria, Australia. It has won several other national and international awards.

Hima Das (11th Anniversary) 2019
Sprinter Hima Das who is nicknamed as ‘Dhing Express’ was the first Indian woman — indeed the first ever Indian athlete — to win a gold medal in any format of a global track event at IAAF World U20 Championships when she clocked a speed of 51.46 seconds. Born on January 9, 2000, to a farmer’s family in Dhing under Nagaon district, Das won five back-to-back gold medals in about a month in Czech Republic in July 2019. She also set an Indian U20 record of 51.32 seconds to finish sixth in the Commonwealth Games 400m final in Gold Coast in April 2018. She was also conferred with Arjuna Award by the President of India on September 25, 2018.

Dr. Tapan Kumar Saikia (11th Anniversary) 2019
Dr. Tapan Kumar Saikia is a renowned oncologist with worldwide reputation in the field of cancer treatment and research. He has served at the Tata Memorial Hospital and presently he is the Head of Medical Oncology and Research Director at the Prince Aly Khan Hospital and oncologist and transplant physician at the Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre. Dr. Saikia who belongs to Assam has worked extensively in the philanthropy industry. With his wide-range of knowledge on Oncology, Hematology, Breast Cancer, Clinical Research, and Medical Education he has made tremendous contribution in the field of medical sciences.
